Alan, Jonas and Mom Dr. Chartock is married to Dr. Roselle Kline Chartock, a professor of education at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams who has edited a widely acclaimed book on the Holocaust. The Chartocks live in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and have two children, Jonas and Sarah.

Jonas attended the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Upon graduating, he joined Teach For America, and taught fourth grade for three years at General Rosecrans Elementary School in Compton, California. He joined the staff of Teach For America in August of 2001 as the Executive Director of the Houston Region.

SarahSarah is currently working on her Ph.D in comparative politics at Princeton University and is, according to Jonas, "wicked smart."
