How It Works
Hi Everyone. The way it works is that if you are a politician and want to get reelected, you make yourself over by trying to pick off groups of unhappy, disgruntled voters. If you're George Bush, you start freeing questionably "detained," prisoners. If you're George Pataki you start giving things out and heading further towards the Democrats, in a Democratic state, and if you're Michael Bloomberg, you take a look at your numbers and offer everyone a rebate on their recently increased real estate taxes. You can't really blame these people, they like their jobs and what goes with them.

It is interesting that over in Connecticut they are thinking of impeaching a governor who is now a self confessed liar for taking free gifts from folks who might want to do business with the government. Of course, in this country, the campaign finance mess continues to grow. The Bush machine has collected record amounts. My bet is that many of these folks will end up with contracts with the government. Put another way, would you give a lot of money to a candidate who could return your investment a hundred or even a thousand fold? You're smart. You know the answer. The question, of course, is whether you'd do the same thing if you were them.
